Comfort and amenities in the Castle
Castel del Monte was equipped with amenities to make the stay comfortable: plumbing, bathrooms with sink and latrine, ventilation systems and fireplaces. These accessories attested to the predominantly residential nature of the manor.
A high fireplace, of which unfortunately only fragments remain (it doesn’t have a conical hood), provided heating to this room, on whose keystone is an elegant flower with a bud. Two single-lancet windows on the sides of the fireplace and one on the front wall still provide natural lighting today. The room connects with the nearby octagonal tower, equipped with toilets and a niche to place the lantern in.
Monumental fireplaces, flanked by niches in coral breccia, also adorn three of the eight rooms on the upper floor.
