The Floorings

The last room on the ground floor retains traces of the original flooring of Castel del Monte: refined geometric inlays in white marble and slate created chromatic contrasts thanks to the juxtaposition of black and white. The artistic technique used by the marble workers was that of opus sectile, a Latin expression that identifies compositions obtained - as in this case - with stones cut into a hexagonal shape and studded with other smaller stones of a triangular shape.
A high fireplace, unfortunately in a fragmented state (i.e. without the conical hood) and flanked by two single-lancet windows, ensured the heating of the room, on whose keystone stands a refined vegetal motif.

The room communicates with the two nearby octagonal towers, one equipped with a spiral staircase to access the upper floor and the other housing toilets.
